About the Role
AFENET is seeking a dedicated Accountant to support its Finance Unit, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance with organizational and donor policies. This position will play a key role in strengthening the organization’s financial systems while providing support to various projects monitored at the Secretariat.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Finance in budget preparation and performance monitoring.
- Review financial documents for accuracy and compliance with policies.
- Prepare vouchers and enter transactions into accounting systems.
- Monitor staff advances to ensure no additional advances are issued before prior ones are accounted for.
- Generate monthly advance reports for review and reconciliation.
- Ensure the accuracy of petty cash transactions and oversee replenishments.
- Maintain accurate cash books for all bank accounts and perform monthly reconciliations.
- Ensure proper coding of expenditures according to approved codes.
- Prepare monthly payroll and pay slips, ensuring accurate deductions (e.g., PAYE, NSSF).
- Coordinate financial matters with third parties such as banks, vendors, and tax authorities.
- File accounting documents systematically for easy reference and audit readiness.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with donor financial policies and timely submission of reports.
- Support audit preparations and assist with reviews conducted by stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality of all accounting information.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA or ACCA certification is mandatory.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in a similar role within a reputable organization; NGO experience is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of US Government procurement, contracting rules, and financial policies.
- Strong numeracy, analytical, and technical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively as part of a team.
