Job Summary:
Internews seeks a Finance and Administration Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, including finance, human resources, and administrative functions, for an anticipated USAID-funded media project in Uganda. The role involves financial planning, compliance with organizational and donor regulations, and ensuring the smooth functioning of operational activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance:
- Manage accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor and Internews policies.
- Develop and monitor project budgets and spending, alerting leadership to any discrepancies.
- Support program staff in drafting activity budgets and maintaining financial projections.
- Oversee cash management, including bank accounts, reconciliations, and cash flow projections.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of month-end reports (MER).
- Conduct vendor vetting, manage procurement processes, and ensure compliance with financial guidelines.
- Prepare and process payroll, ensuring accurate deductions (e.g., PAYE, NSSF).
- Provide support for internal and external audits.
Human Resources:
- Develop and ensure compliance with HR policies in alignment with local labor laws.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and performance management processes.
- Maintain up-to-date HR records in relevant systems.
- Promote adherence to organizational ethics and policies among staff.
- Manage payroll, timesheets, and leave accrual processes.
Operations:
- Ensure legal compliance, including registration, licenses, and annual statutory returns.
- Maintain the organization’s assets register and ensure timely payment of taxes.
- Support the operational needs of the Uganda office, ensuring smooth daily operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- Education: University degree in Accounting, Business Management, or a related field; CPA or ACCA certification.
- Experience: At least 7 years in finance, HR, and operations management.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and proficiency in Adobe Reader, email, and internet.
- Fluency in English (written and oral).
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
Preferred:
- Experience with international NGOs or USAID-funded projects.
- Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).
- Sensitivity to cross-cultural workplace dynamics and prior team management experience.
