Job Summary
Airtel Uganda is seeking a highly skilled Procurement Manager to oversee supplier prequalification, contract negotiations, vendor management, and procurement operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a hands-on approach, strong ethics, and the ability to thrive in a performance-driven environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prequalify suppliers through tendering or headhunting.
- Distribute Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and evaluate submissions.
- Award tenders to selected vendors and manage supplier relationships.
- Prepare savings and tender reports for decision-making by relevant stakeholders.
- Identify new suppliers and review products and services.
- Negotiate supplier terms in alignment with Airtel’s standards and culture.
- Sign contracts and issue Purchase Orders (POs).
- Enforce contract clauses as applicable to different situations.
- Evaluate suppliers on quality, quantity, and delivery metrics.
- Conduct supplier visits to assess their capacity and production processes.
- Provide feedback on supplier products and services, fostering ongoing relations.
- Make recommendations to support management decisions.
- Manage and develop the procurement team.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification in procurement, such as CIPS.
Experience
- 4–8 years of practical experience in a procurement role.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong ethics and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Ability to operate in a performance-driven and business-focused environment.
- Exceptional planning, organization, and attention to detail.
- Skilled in negotiations and effective oral and written communication.
- Good understanding of category management principles.
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving, leadership, and management abilities.
