Job Overview:
The IMF’s Resident Representative Office in Uganda is seeking to recruit a qualified Local Economist. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring economic developments, maintaining databases, contributing to research projects, and providing logistical support to visiting missions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Uganda’s economic policies and developments, identifying strengths and challenges.
  • Maintain accurate databases to track program performance.
  • Stay updated on current political and economic events and inform the Uganda team at IMF headquarters of any relevant issues.
  • Contribute to research projects led by the Uganda team.
  • Support follow-up activities related to technical assistance from the IMF teams.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with national technical staff, IMF headquarters, development partners, and the private sector.
  • Assist in logistical and technical preparations for visiting missions from IMF headquarters.
  • Help organize and execute outreach events in collaboration with the Resident Representative.
  • Perform other duties required for the smooth functioning of the office.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics, Finance, or Statistics.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience (for Master’s degree holders) or 2 years (for PhD holders).
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and one econometric software (Stata, Matlab, Eviews, etc.).
