Job Overview:
The IMF’s Resident Representative Office in Uganda is seeking to recruit a qualified Local Economist. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring economic developments, maintaining databases, contributing to research projects, and providing logistical support to visiting missions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor Uganda’s economic policies and developments, identifying strengths and challenges.
- Maintain accurate databases to track program performance.
- Stay updated on current political and economic events and inform the Uganda team at IMF headquarters of any relevant issues.
- Contribute to research projects led by the Uganda team.
- Support follow-up activities related to technical assistance from the IMF teams.
- Develop and maintain relationships with national technical staff, IMF headquarters, development partners, and the private sector.
- Assist in logistical and technical preparations for visiting missions from IMF headquarters.
- Help organize and execute outreach events in collaboration with the Resident Representative.
- Perform other duties required for the smooth functioning of the office.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics, Finance, or Statistics.
- At least 5 years of professional experience (for Master’s degree holders) or 2 years (for PhD holders).
- Strong command of English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and one econometric software (Stata, Matlab, Eviews, etc.).
