Summary:
The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter. The Carpenter will work in the Facility Management section of the Embassy, carrying out preventive maintenance and repair work on finish and interior assemblies, furnishings, and fixtures in all mission buildings and facilities.
Duties:
- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on finish and interior assemblies, furnishings, and fixtures.
- Repair, adjust, and install doors, windows, hardware, wall, ceiling, and floor coverings, sunshades, blinds, and fixed furnishings.
- Assist with various manual tasks such as demolition work, painting, plumbing, and carpentry work.
- Ensure the appropriate use of materials and assets.
- Assist in general clean-up of work areas.
Qualifications and Evaluations:
- Education: Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level technicians with a concentration in carpentry is required.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of building assemblies, furnishings, and fixture operations.
- Language: English level II (Limited knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to identify problems, communicate effectively, work as part of a team, manage competing priorities, and work under pressure.
Other Information:
- Hiring preference will be given to certain categories of applicants.
- All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
- Applicants must be able to obtain and hold a Local Security Certification or Public Trust clearance.
