Job Title: Cyber Security Assistant

Reports To: Cyber Security Officer

Job Summary: The Cyber Security Assistant will play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity and security of the mass enrolment and renewal process, as well as the accompanying technological devices. This role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating cyber threats to ensure a secure environment.

About Us:

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) was established by the Registration of Persons Act (ROPA), 2015 and is mandated to establish and maintain the National Identification Register (NIR). The Authority is also charged with, among other things, the registration of citizens and legally resident aliens; assigning National Identification / Alien Identification Numbers (NINs/AINs) to qualifying persons and issuing Identification Cards to those 16 years and above; registration of births, deaths, and adoption orders and issuance of the relevant certificates.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the design, implementation, maintenance, and reporting of appropriate system security measures.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with approved ICT security policies and standards.
  • Conducting tests of the disaster recovery plan to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Coordinating access controls, detecting physical and system intrusions, and monitoring CCTVs.
  • Keeping abreast of evolving cyber threats and updated security measures through continuous research.
  • Responding promptly and efficiently to cyber and physical threats.
  • Generating incident reports on any identified threats.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to data protection and privacy regulations, including the Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019.
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned by the Manager Information Systems.

Qualifications / Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in cyber security practices.
  • Proficiency in managing hardware such as servers, storage systems, data backup systems, desktops, access control devices, and related equipment.
  • Expertise in managing and maintaining Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), including setting up network security features like firewalls.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience in cyber security will be advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think algorithmically.
  • Capability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Comfortable with extended periods of computer work.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Accuracy, team player mentality, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Cost-awareness and understanding of resource optimization.
