Role Overview

As an Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing financial operations, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting Wave’s overall strategic growth in Uganda. The Finance team drives financial excellence and operational stability, ensuring the company’s resources are optimized for maximum impact.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable Management

  • Oversee issuance of purchase orders and vendor invoice management.
  • Review and approve Accounts Payable (AP) transactions to ensure compliance with company procedures.
  • Conduct monthly supplier reconciliations for the top 50 suppliers and manage supplier contracts.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Accurately post supplier invoices, staff reimbursements, and other transactions in SAGE Intacct in line with IFRS and company policies.
  • Perform ledger reconciliations, including cash, payables aging, PPE movements, and staff accounts.
  • Support annual statutory audits in coordination with internal schedules.

Cash/Treasury Management

  • Prepare and coordinate payment runs through internal approval workflows.
  • Initiate bank payments and liaise with the liquidity team to resolve reconciliation issues.
  • Manage banking relationships, including Forex rate negotiations.
  • Ensure sufficient bank/cash account balances for planned payment runs.

Tax Compliance

  • Assist in tax correspondence and monthly tax computations.
  • Ensure timely submission of tax returns and settlement of obligations as per the Ugandan tax calendar.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on tax-related matters.

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Develop and enforce policies related to staff travel, cash advances, and reimbursements.
  • Conduct regular training for employees on financial policies and updates.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
    • Part qualification in CPA/ACCA is an added advantage.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years in accounting, auditing, or finance.
    • Familiarity with EFRIS is essential.
    • Experience with multi-entity financial reporting is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Word, Google Sheets/Excel, and financial reporting software.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
