Job Summary:

The Communication Assistant will provide technical support for implementing Behaviour Change Communication and Public Relations interventions for UAC and the National HIV and AIDS Response.

Reports to: Communication Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct media monitoring to assess stakeholder participation on UAC social media platforms and generate reports.
  • Research current trends and audience preferences to create relevant social media content.
  • Respond to user inquiries and comments on UAC social media platforms.
  • Provide real-time social media updates for UAC events.
  • Build capacity for UAC staff to effectively utilize social media platforms, including WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter).
  • Assist in developing and executing communication and public relations plans and strategies.
  • Ensure consistent HIV/AIDS messaging across all communication platforms.
  • Participate in media relations and outreach activities to promote UAC’s image.
  • Maintain media calendars and support media engagements.
  • Provide administrative support to the Communications team in tracking communication activities and deadlines.
  • Draft and edit internal and external communication articles, including publications, press releases, and social media posts.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism and Public Relations, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience as a Communications Assistant in a public or reputable private organization.

Competencies:

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in social media and digital communication.
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating abilities.
  • Ethics and integrity.
  • Strong IT skills.
