Job Opportunity: Finance Assistant

Jhpiego, a leading global health organization, is seeking a Finance Assistant to join its team in Uganda. This role involves managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with Jhpiego and donor guidelines, and maintaining accurate financial records. The Finance Assistant will be instrumental in supporting programs aimed at improving urban health systems and health outcomes in Kampala, Mukono, and Wakiso districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review vendor invoices and staff advances for accuracy and compliance.
  • Process payments, including vendor, mobile wallet, and staff advances, in QBE.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely settlement of bills.
  • Review and post expense reports to ensure completeness and validity of financial data.
  • Maintain organized records by stamping, filing, and uploading payment and journal vouchers.
  • Process VAT claims in line with Ugandan tax laws and USAID requirements.
  • Provide regular updates on staff advance accounts to ensure timely settlements.
  • Generate and file financial expense reports as per accounting standards and donor policies.
  • Support sound financial operations and internal controls in collaboration with the Finance Officer.
  • Ensure compliance with Jhpiego and donor guidelines in all financial processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business-related field; CPA/ACCA Level 2 is a minimum.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Finance or Accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of USAID regulations is a plus.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in ledger maintenance, bookkeeping, and bank reconciliation.
  • Strong skills in spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
  • Budget development experience for projects of varying sizes.
