Job Summary
The Counsellor will be responsible for providing high-quality HIV testing and counselling services during the Uganda Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (UPHIA) Survey. Duties include conducting home-based counselling, pre- and post-test counselling, HIV risk assessments, and offering referrals to participants where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and prepare all materials required for fieldwork.
- Safely maintain and use tablet devices, ensuring they are charged and functional.
- Conduct participant consent and individual interviews accurately using the tablet.
- Provide HIV counselling services at the household level, including pre-test counselling and post-test support.
- Assess participants’ HIV risks and provide appropriate risk reduction options.
- Complete referral forms and direct participants to relevant healthcare services.
- Maintain accurate records of completed and incomplete interviews, reporting to the Team Leader daily.
- Schedule return visits for incomplete interviews.
- Participate in technical training and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Certification in HIV testing and counselling is preferred.
- Fluency in English and at least one main local language relevant to the work area.
- Proficiency in using computers and tablets.
- Minimum of 24 months’ experience, particularly in large-scale population surveys such as UPHIA or DHS within the past seven years.
- Valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Research Participant Protection.

- Adaptable and able to maintain professionalism in various environments.
- Availability to attend training sessions in January 2025.
- Prepared to begin work in March 2025.

Work Hours: 8 hours daily
