Position Purpose

The Project Officer for Animal Production will support animal production initiatives in refugee settlements, particularly goat and poultry farming. The role involves advising on animal husbandry, developing training and support frameworks, linking communities to economic activities, and coordinating with local stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Implementation and Sustainability

  • Provide expert advice on improved animal production practices.
  • Develop annual project activity plans and oversee high-quality implementation.
  • Train participants in models such as Saving for Transformation (S4T), Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS), and others.
  • Promote modern farming techniques to shift families from subsistence to commercial farming.
  • Establish and maintain block gardens and demonstration sites.
  • Organize and monitor saving groups and link them to income-generating activities.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

  • Strengthen farmers’ capacity for quality animal production.
  • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders for planning, development, and monitoring.
  • Mentor business groups in income-generating activities for sustainable livelihoods.
  • Ensure gender-balanced participation and link farmers to external support and services.

Stakeholder Engagement and Networking

  • Represent World Vision in settlement-level meetings.
  • Facilitate collaborations with local authorities, UN agencies, and NGOs.
  • Conduct review meetings for partners and communities to reflect on best practices.

Documentation, Reporting, and Knowledge Management

  • Conduct regular visits to monitor progress and provide technical advice.
  • Submit comprehensive monthly and activity-specific reports.
  • Document impact stories, success stories, and best practices for shared learning.

Child Protection and Wellbeing

  • Monitor children’s welfare and report any incidents of abuse.
  • Engage with local leaders to uphold children’s rights.
  • Educate families and communities on children’s rights and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Health and Production, Veterinary, or Animal Production.
  • Experience: At least 3 years in project management, livelihoods, or rural development.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, project budgeting, report writing, and data management.
  • Experience working with vulnerable communities; knowledge of animal production, economic development, and agribusiness skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with West Nile languages or refugee languages in Rhino and Bidibidi is advantageous.
  • Valid motorcycle riding license.
  • Must demonstrate high integrity, cultural sensitivity, and team spirit.
  • Willing to work in a refugee settlement environment.

Work Environment

The position is fully field-based in refugee settlement areas, with challenging and resource-limited settings. It requires cultural sensitivity, resilience, and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse partners.
