Job Title: Health Officer

Job Description:
The Health Officer will work under the supervision of the Community Health Officer to ensure hygiene and sanitation at both the Health Unit and in the community. The officer will collaborate with the integrated community health program to implement health activities and spend approximately 80% of their time in the field, at health facilities, health posts, and within the community of the IRC-supported health facilities’ catchment population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement community-based environmental health activities.
- Enforce Environmental Health Act, Regulations, and By-laws.
- Compile and submit basic health data to the Health Inspector or Community Health Officer.
- Compile quarterly sanitation data coverage for zones in the catchment area.
- Conduct daily supervision of hygiene and sanitation within the catchment area.
- Compile and submit monthly community health information data.
- Supervise Village Health Teams (VHT) activities within the catchment area.
- Conduct weekly meetings.
- Support client follow-up, particularly for defaulting clients, including TB and HIV patients.
- Provide health education and promote health both at the facility and community levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certificate in Environmental Health Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution. A public health qualification at certificate/diploma/degree level is an added advantage.
- Registered and licensed with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
- Experience in quality environmental sanitation.
- Ability to plan the allocation of staff, funds, and facilities to meet targets.
- Capable of supporting change initiatives and promoting quality health service delivery.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate information.
- Results-oriented with the ability to help the unit achieve its objectives.
- Prior experience in a humanitarian setting is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license with classes “A1, A”.
