It was established after the East African Women’s Conference in 1993 and aims to eliminate gender-based discrimination. UWONET promotes networking, collective action, and advocacy for gender equality and societal transformation in Uganda.
Job Summary
UWONET is seeking a motivated and career-driven youth for the Finance Department Internship. This is a great opportunity for fresh graduates with academic qualifications in Accounting and Finance. The intern will gain valuable experience supporting the financial operations of a vibrant NGO working on gender advocacy and development programs.
Objective
The internship will provide hands-on experience in financial management within a nonprofit setting. The intern will develop skills in financial procedures, reporting, budgeting, and compliance, contributing to UWONET’s smooth financial operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and archiving documents.
- Budget Monitoring: Support in monitoring project budgets, preparing budget variance reports, and analyzing discrepancies.
- Account Reconciliations: Assist in preparing monthly bank, accounts payable, and receivable reconciliations.
- Grant and Donor Reporting: Help prepare financial reports for donor-funded projects and organize documents for audits.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Assist with processing payments and monitoring receivables from staff and partners.
- Statutory Compliance: Support preparation of statutory obligations such as NSSF, LST, and PAYE submissions.
- Internal Controls and Audits: Assist in internal audits and ensure compliance with donor requirements and internal controls.
Reporting Line
The intern will report directly to the Finance Manager and collaborate with the finance team, receiving regular mentorship and supervision to support career growth.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
- Gain practical experience in finance and accounting within an NGO environment.
- Understand donor compliance, financial reporting, and statutory requirements.
- Develop skills in financial analysis, budgeting, and grant management.
- Gain proficiency in financial systems and tools.
Evaluation and Feedback
Intern performance will be appraised quarterly, focusing on:
- Accuracy and timeliness of work.
- Meeting deadlines.
- Adaptability and positive contribution to the team. Regular feedback sessions will be provided by the Finance Manager.
Confidentiality
The intern is required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all financial and organizational information.
Work Hours
This is a full-time internship, with a 40-hour workweek, following UWONET’s office schedule.
