About MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit: The MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized center of excellence with dominant research themes in HIV and emerging infections, vaccines and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. The Unit contributes to knowledge on changing epidemics, the evaluation of innovative healthcare options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK), the Unit joined LSHTM on February 1, 2018. This partnership boosts research capacity into current and emerging health issues in Africa and globally. The Unit is based at the UVRI Entebbe campus with outposts in Kalungu, Masaka, Wakiso, and Kampala Districts.
Job Descriptions:
- Position: Clinical Trials Manager (01 Position)
- Reporting to: Head of Clinical Research and Trials Platform
- Duty Station: Entebbe
- Job Purpose: The position holder will coordinate the LSHTM Clinical Trials Network, shaping its direction and collaborating globally to promote best practices and optimize trial capacity. The candidate should have extensive experience in clinical trials, especially in resource-constrained settings, and strong health research management skills. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to advance LSHTM’s strategic priorities.
- Position: Program Manager (02 Positions)
- Reporting to: Head of Research Support Office
- Duty Station: Entebbe
- Job Purpose: The post-holder will provide Programme Management support for a portfolio of projects within a research theme, including strategic management and business development support. They will coordinate research activities, supervise Grants Officers, and ensure harmonization of activities across projects to maximize outputs. They will act according to MRC/UVRI & LSHTM policies and refer major decisions to the Head of RSO and Theme Leader. Additionally, they will oversee daily project activities with the support of Project Officers and Administrators.
- Position: Project Officer (01 Position)
- Reporting to: Program Manager
- Duty Station: Entebbe
- Job Purpose: The position holder will assist the Programme Manager/Project Manager in delivering comprehensive project management services. They will anticipate, plan, and respond to project needs to maximize resource use for optimal results, ensuring efficient and accurate management of the Unit’s external grants portfolio. They will oversee project implementation in coordination with the research team and Principal Investigator (PI), serving as the main contact between the project and other support services, and providing operational support for project activities.
Qualifications:
- Clinical Trials Manager:
- Extensive experience in clinical trials, especially in resource-constrained settings.
- Strong health research management skills.
- Program Manager:
- Experience in strategic management and business development.
- Strong coordination, management, and administrative skills.
- Ability to supervise and harmonize activities across multiple projects.
- Project Officer:
- Experience in project management and administration.
- Ability to anticipate, plan, and respond to project needs.
- Strong organizational and operational support skills.
