Job Summary:
The Recovery Officer – Northern Region is responsible for securing timely repayments through daily field visits to delinquent customers. The role supports daily branch and bailiff activities in assigned branches while maintaining positive relationships with customers and minimizing losses to FINCA Uganda through proper management of overdue credit facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and Coordination:
- Monitor and coordinate recovery activities for both active and written-off loans at assigned FINCA branches.
- Ensure escalation processes are followed and all recovery efforts/documents are completed and filed at the branch.
- Negotiation and Compliance:
- Negotiate payments with active and written-off customers, securing promises to pay within set guidelines and targets.
- Maintain 100% compliance with all policies and regulatory requirements across collection activities.
- Negotiate with debtors to repay bad debts at the lowest cost to the Bank.
- Field Visits and Legal Proceedings:
- Conduct periodical visits to customers’ securities and advise management on their condition.
- Identify delinquent accounts requiring legal proceedings and advise management regularly.
- Bailiff Coordination:
- Coordinate allocation of bad loans to court bailiffs with proper approval.
- Ensure court bailiffs receive formal written instructions before proceeding with cases.
- Procedures and Reporting:
- Participate in periodic reviews of recovery procedures and advise management on new developments.
- Review and update the Field Collections tool daily, providing status updates to supervisors.
- Training and Guidance:
- Train and guide branch staff on best practices in recovery of delinquent loans.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in any business-related field.
- Experience:
- At least three years of working experience in credit or recovery function in the financial industry.
- Competencies:
- Basic understanding of bank branch credit operations, rules, regulations, laws, loan granting, and credit risk management.
- Good problem-solving, negotiation, interpersonal, and convincing skills.
- Patience and emotional understanding to deal with clients.
- Excellent organizing, recording, and filing skills.
- Strong dedication to accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to use and communicate in the local languages.
