Job Title: Senior Finance Officer

Duty Station: MU-JHU site

Contract Duration: 1 year (renewable)

Description and Purpose: The Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for performing periodic financial accounting tasks, including payments processing, fixed assets management, payroll preparation, accounts reconciliation, filing and document retrieval, and financial reporting.

Required Qualifications and Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent from a recognized University.
  • Full or partial completion of ACCA/CPA certifications is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience in a similar capacity with a multi-donor busy institution.
  • Experience working with a clinical research institution would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required.
  • Familiarity with computerized accounting packages; specific experience with Microsoft Official Dynamics NAV software preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a demanding environment, manage multiple accountabilities, and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Finance and Accounting Management:
    • Review and process day-to-day financial requests in accordance with IFRS/IAS and institutional policies.
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate missing supporting documentation.
    • Prepare online payments for review by Financial Accounting Head.
    • Ensure prompt settlement of statutory and other payroll deductions.
    • Perform month-end closing of transactions and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
    • Assist with cash flow management and bank reconciliation.
    • Prepare supporting schedules for annual audits.
  2. Fixed Assets Management:
    • Track and maintain organization’s physical assets.
    • Manage and maintain an updated fixed assets register.
    • Prepare relevant reports on all capital assets.
  3. Financial Records Filing and Retrieval:
    • Ensure transparent paper trail for all financial transactions.
    • Maintain proper books of accounts and archiving system.
