Position Description: AFRIpads is seeking a competent Accounts Assistant to support our financial accounting function. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, examining, and analyzing accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries
  • Document financial transactions and enter account information
  • Recommend financial actions based on analysis of accounting options
  • Summarize current financial status by preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports on a monthly basis
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets and prepare periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs
  • Advise management on resource utilization, tax strategies, and budget forecasts
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
  • Guide accounting clerical staff and coordinate activities
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Maintain financial security by following internal controls
  • Prepare payments and verify documentation
  • Answer accounting procedure questions and interpret accounting policies and regulations
  • Reconcile and verify transactions before posting to ledgers
  • Manage daily general posts ins/outs
  • Support office administration and back-office needs
  • Conduct monthly internal audit reviews of company transactions
  • Provide support to procurement coordinator and ensure procurement guidelines are followed
  • Vetting of company support documents
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • Four years of accounting experience in a busy private organization
  • Relevant professional qualification such as CPA Uganda or ACCA at least level II
  • Good working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting system
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of general accounting and fiscal management principles
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Compensation: AFRIpads (U) Ltd. offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience for this position, along with a one-year renewable contract.
