Background

AKF, in partnership with a global consortium of private foundations, is implementing Schools2030, a 10-year (2020-2030) learning improvement programme. The ten-year initiative is a participatory action research and learning improvement programme based in 1,000 government schools across the ten countries. Using the principles of Human-Centred Design (HCD) and focusing on the key transition years of ages 5, 10, and 15, Schools2030 seeks to catalyse locally rooted education solutions that can inform systems-level approaches for improving holistic learning outcomes. The three-step process requires teachers to assess, innovate and show case. These assessments are administered to the learners at all levels and conducted by the teachers with the support of the Schools2030 team.

AKF will be pre-piloting and piloting an International Development Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) tool which will be used to support Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers in assess phase. The purpose of this activity is to test the efficacy of the early learning assessment tool in supporting the Schools2030 assess phase.

 

 

Job Summary

AKF is seeking dynamic and qualified individuals for enumerator positions to support in data collection for pre-piloting and piloting an Early Learning Assessment tool in Kampala and Arua. Timeframe: March -April 2022. The pre-pilot and pilot will involve the collection of data based on a series of exercises with children (aged between 5 and 6 years old) focusing relationship building, culture and arts, creativity, literacy, and numeracy domains.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend the IDELA administration training and pass the inter reliability test, to be selected for data collection.
  • Arrive at the training venue on time and attend all sessions
  • Correctly and efficiently administer the IDELA tool, including knowing and following all administration rules
  • Accurately identify and record pupils’ responses as correct and incorrect using digital devices (tablet)
  • Collect data using child-friendly methodologies and approaches with sampled girls and boys in select Pre-primary schools.
  • Organize the assessment materials, ensure their security, and submit the materials at the end of field work.
  • Provide feedback on the tools and their use.
  • Take utmost good care of the data collection tablet and other assets that may be provided during this engagement, and return the same at the end of the assignment
  • Code the assessment results and enter data for the supported schools into the data base.

Reporting lines

  • Enumerators will work in the field under the guidance and supervision of the Regional Assessment Coordinator, the National Schools2030 Coordinator, the Schools2030 Program Officer and the Education Data Management Officer to ensure that IDELA tool is successfully pre-piloted and piloted in the selected schools.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A successful candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A minimum of a diploma in Early Childhood Development
  • Substantial experience as a caregiver
  • Experience in administering learning assessments at classroom level
  • Willingness to learn and explore new experiences
  • Demonstrate ability to fluently read and speak one of the relevant local languages -Luganda or Lugbarati, which are required for IDELA administration.
  • Demonstrate evidence of an understanding of and commitment to child protection and safeguarding as well as other vulnerable populations.
  • Friendly personality in working with young children
  • Must be aware of and sensitive to the cultural expectations of communities in Kampala and Arua.
  • Must be able to record responses appropriately and correctly without distorting the original data
  • Must be able to work for full day working hours in the field across a number of day
  • Teachers from schools involved in the Schools2030 project will not be considered.
