Infectious Diseases Institute Profile:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to build capacity of health systems in Africa with strong emphasis on infectious diseases through research, and capacity development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach. IDI invites applications for the following full-time positions for upcoming US government (USAID) sponsored projects for delivery of services for HIV/AIDS and related health conditions.
Job Summary:
As a member of staff for this project the coordinator shall strictly abide by the terms and conditions of this TOR and deliver the required outputs as indicated in Section 2, abide by the minimum information requirements and general procedures as required in performing his duties.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Will work with the principal investigator to ensure that the study protocol is implemented with accuracy in all study sites. That is study follow ups and study procedures are implemented as per the protocol.
- Will work with the principal investigator and the regulatory office to maintain and up-date study regulatory binder.
- Will be responsible for making all the necessary regulatory submissions to the regulatory bodies in a timely manner.
- Will conduct ongoing protocol training for all existing and new study staff members to ensure that the team remains knowledgeable of study procedures.
- Will be responsible for training health facility staff to ensure that study procedures are implemented at clinic level.
- Will work with the outpatient medical officer to manage very sick study patients and ensure that they are referred to the relevant inpatient hospitals and are receiving all the care they need.
- Will be responsible for identifying and reporting all severe adverse events to the regulatory bodies and to the sponsor in a timely manner. Will be responsible for keeping a log of these SAES.
- Will be involved in the clinical management of the patient SAE and will be required to review the inpatient at least once to get patient updates.
- Will be responsible for notifying the site investigator regarding any study supplies that need ordering.
- Supervise staff and ensure that they achieve the objectives of the study as indicated in the protocol following all standard operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery(MBChB)is required, Masters in Public health or in a related health field is an added advantage
- Good Clinical practice certification with at least one year’s experience in a research coordination role.
- At least two years post-internship training in a clinical setting.
- Experience working in medical research.
- Competence in the use of standard office software.
- Ability to work in a team environment
