The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Job Summary:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Training Coordinator for the Implementing Malaria Molecular Surveillance (IMMRSE) study. The successful candidate will be based in Kampala office.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that IMMRSE training program activities are executed as per funding agency rules
- Work with the HR Manager, study Coordinator and PI to advertise, shortlist and interview candidates for award of Trainee Opportunities.
- Draft training plans and schedule to align with project requirements.
- Oversee training plans and track academic progress of trainees in liaison with the IDRC regulatory office.
- Work with the Grants Manager and project coordinator to track the project budget
- Support trainees to ensure that stipends, course fees, research expenses etc are paid on time.
- Prepare and submit annual progress reports on trainees as required by funding agency.
- Organize the scheduled training programs, regular trainee meetings and presentation sessions
- Develop a monitoring and evaluation system to track the success of the training program.
- Support the Regulatory affairs office to establish a training coordination office within IDRC.
Key Result Areas
- Training plans and academic progress of trainees kept on track.
- Documented training plans for project trainees
- Timely progress reports submitted
- Trainee program established and functioning as planned
Minimum Qualifications
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social sciences, Social work, public Health or related discipline.
- Prior experience in a similar coordinator position is an added advantage
- Possess a Good Clinical Practice certificate
- Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under stringent deadlines and to work independently
