Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) Profile
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Job Summary:
The study nurse will be responsible for recruitment of study participants and administering all study-related procedures to these participants. In addition, the study nurse will provide technical support to health facility teams and support the successful implementation of integrated HIV-Hypertension (HTN) care models in selected HIV Clinics in Kampala and Wakiso districts.
Key Result Areas/Outputs
- Recruiting and enrolling participants
- Performing study interviews
- Following up participants
- Performing clinic-based lab procedures
- Dispensing medication
- Inventory management
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Participate in protocol/SOPs or any other study trainings.
- Participate in counselling and management of study participants
- Screen, obtain consent, enrol eligible participants, and follow study participants
- Participate in data collection and entry and ensure that all data collected is accurate and complete
- Offer support to the community health workers for the follow-up of study participants.
- Organize patient follow-up and carry out home visits if required
- Participate in training and other capacity-building activities on the implementation of integrated HIV-HTN care models for HIV clinicians in selected HIV clinics in Kampala and Wakiso.
- Perform first-level quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) to ensure all fields in the consent forms and case report forms (CRFs) are complete and accurate
- Assist in generating study progress reports as needed
- Communicate closely with locally and internationally based Clinical Investigators by email and weekly telephone conferences
- Any other duty assigned by your supervisor. In addition, the responsibilities may be revised to suit the changing needs of the Project. If and when this is necessary, you will always be informed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Nursing from a reputable institution
- Up-to-date registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives’ Council
- GCP & HSP certificate within the last two years
- Prior NCD/HIV Research Experience
- Ability to work flexibly with different teams
- Proficiency in Luganda
- Previous experience with working in a research environment will be an added advantage
