Alderman Program for Global Mental Health (PCAP) currently consists of mental health programming in Uganda, Kenya, and Ukraine. In Uganda, HealthRight implements mental health programs in collaboration with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders.
Job Summary
The Research Assistant will be working under the supervision and guidance of the Project Coordinator and Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant and will be based in HealthRight’s field office in Arua district. This position will support the management of the study in the field, including overseeing the quantitative and qualitative data collection process with responsibilities for organizing interviews, tracking progress, overseeing data checks, and processing for data entry.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Identify and compile lists of potential research participants in accordance with study objectives and parameters, as appropriate to the individual position.
- Assist in the development of interview schedules; contact potential subjects to introduce and explain study objectives and protocol, and to arrange interviews, either in person or by telephone.
- Participate in piloting of data collection tools and assist with adapting tools prior to implementation.
- Execute routine data collection (face-to-face and/or telephone and/or online) and entry in accordance with predetermined protocols, data collection procedures, and documentation standards. Face-to-face data collection will require travel to the field.
- During daily debrief sessions, review collected data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information; follow up with participants to resolve problems or clarify data collected.
- Ensure safe transportation of data from the collection points to storage facilities.
- Translate data collection tools and collected data.
- Transcribe qualitative data, enter quantitative data.
- Code and verify data in accordance with specified coding and data cleaning procedures.
- Ensure that the confidentiality of HealthRight and partner data is protected.
- Participate in regular data verification and audit exercises to assess the quality of data reported and address any anomalies identified.
- Foster good relationships and team spirit with program and implementing partners in the field.
- Perform any other data tasks assigned by the project coordinator and/or their other supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics or a related discipline
- Two to three years of experience in monitoring and evaluation.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
- High level of organization.
- Ability to work according to the project workplan and schedule activities in order to successfully meet internal and external deadlines.
- Ability to understand and apply specified field and/or research procedures and protocols.
- Competencies using online meeting and project management platforms.
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural contexts.
- Ability to work under pressure/cope with tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with interviewing, observation, and probing skills is considered attractive.
- Proficiency in English and Juba Arabic is required.
