About DINU Project:
The Development Initiative for Northern Uganda, a Government of Uganda program supported by the European Union, was awarded to the CARE Denmark led consortium to implement the Livelihoods and Agriculture component in Karamoja, Teso and Acholi sub-regions. The implementation of DINU program activities got affected by the occurrence of COVID-19 pandemic and desert locust that affected several season bound activities. To support the implementation of DINU activities, CARE International in Uganda seeks to recruit a Livelihoods Volunteer.
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the SRHG Coordinator in Kotido, the SRHG Volunteer will implement activities concerning the objective of Maternal and Child Nutrition. S/He will conduct the hands-on implementation of integrated nutrition activities, sexual reproductive health, and family planning. S/He will be required to collaborate with the Volunteer on livelihoods. S/He will increase the utilization of quality integrated SRHG services in the target districts of Karamoja, Katakwi and Kitgum districts.
Purpose of the Volunteer: To support the implementation of project components on Nutrition and Sexual Reproductive Health and Family Planning. We will achieve this purpose with close collaboration with the Livelihood Coordinator and Livelihood volunteer with overall guidance from the SRHG Coordinator in implementing Maternal and Child Nutrition activities of Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU).
Roles and Responsibilities of CARE International Uganda Jobs 2021:
- To conduct mobilization, validation, and verification of profiled project participants, including supporting the project participants’ database entry and management.
- Together with the district, support in implementing integrated SRH/G activities for the farmer, mother care, and youth groups,
- Organize and conduct monthly integrated Sexual Reproductive Health, Family planning, and Gender-Based Violence outreaches targeting youth and adolescents in the Karamoja, Katakwi and Kitgum project districts.
- Support the coordination of monthly integrated SRHR/G outreaches with inbuilt screening, identification, and referral of cases of GBV with partners.
- Support the coordination of awareness-raising before and during integrated SRHR service delivery to mobilize the communities for services.
- Collaborate with the district to identify and roll out a communication strategy for the health program, including the printing and distributing of IEC materials focusing on SRHR information.
- Using the existing VHTs and Health workers, support the district to conduct health promotion outreaches and sensitization activities to promote uptake of SRHR services using messages approved by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
- To Plan and coordinate training for structures concerning VHTs and the different groups.
- Contribute to knowledge management by recording and documenting results and lessons learned, including developing activity briefings and presentations, and systematizing relevant information and data for SRHG thematic area.
- Support the SRHG Coordinator in building the capacity of different structures.
- Perform other activities whenever requested by the supervisor.
Key Outputs
The expectation is that at the end of this service:
- Community Integrated Nutrition activities implemented.
- Support to Mother Caregiver Groups and Village Health teams sufficient for ownership and sustainability during and after the program.
- Sustained implementation strategy for engaging health officers in outreach activities relating to maternal and child Nutrition.
- Mentor Role Model Men to undertake nutrition and SRHG actions at the group and household level.
- Support establishment of function youth spaces
Minimum Qualifications for CARE International Uganda Jobs 2021
- The applicant must be a professional with a diploma or first university degree in health or other areas related to attention to people in situations of gender-based violence, family planning, women, and youth empowerment.
- A minimum of two years and above in a medium-sized organization experience, preferably INGO in a similar role.
- Should have Knowledge of concepts and debates related to sexual and reproductive health, rights, gender equality, ethnic-racial equality, adolescence, and youths’ empowerment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative.
- Should demonstrate the ability to coach smallholders in the use of best practices.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, interpersonal skills; high-quality document and report preparation; excellent presentation skills.
- Should have a thorough understanding of Karamoja maternal and child nutrition context and opportunities.
- Proven ability to successfully work as a team member, build and maintain a positive work environment.

Payment: CARE Uganda will provide a stipend of Ugs. 500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand) UGX per month to cover transport to the office and other minimum costs of living expenses.
