Job Summary:

Makerere University School of Public Health seeks qualified individuals to serve as Interviewers for the Uganda Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (UPHIA) Survey. Interviewers will conduct individual interviews using handheld tablets with participants who consent to the survey.

Reports to: Field Team Leader
Work Station: Throughout Uganda

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and maintain all materials and equipment needed for fieldwork.
  • Ensure the safety, proper use, and maintenance of tablets, including keeping them charged.
  • Approach and engage assigned participants.
  • Administer interview consent procedures and conduct interviews using tablets.
  • Complete biomarker consent procedures.
  • Collect survey data and ensure its accuracy and timely electronic transmission.
  • Conduct interviews as per the procedures outlined in the interviewers’ manual.
  • Respond to participant inquiries and schedule return visits for incomplete interviews.
  • Identify participants requiring referrals, complete referral forms, and provide appropriate assistance.
  • Report daily to the Team Leader on completed and partially completed interviews.
  • Attend all technical trainings and adhere to survey Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum education: Diploma or higher in a relevant field.
  • Fluency in English and at least one main local language in the designated area of work.
  • Proficiency in using electronic devices such as tablets, smartphones, and computers.
  • Experience with data collection software (e.g., ODK, CSPro, SurveyCTO, KoboCollect).
  • At least two years of experience, including work on large population surveys (e.g., UPHIA, DHS) within the last seven years.
  • Valid certification in GCP (Good Clinical Practice), GCLP (Good Clinical Laboratory Practice), and protection of human research participants is required.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work continuously for the contract duration.
  • Commitment to travel and work away from home.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse local field conditions.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Work Hours:

8 hours per day

Experience Required: 24 months (2 years)

Level of Education: Postgraduate degree
