Job Summary

The Registration Assistant supports UNHCR’s registration operations, aiding in all activities related to registration, reception, data management, and filing. They interact directly with asylum seekers and refugees, answering queries about UNHCR registration procedures, rights, and entitlements. This role requires collaboration with protection staff and partners to identify and refer cases for further follow-up, including providing interpretation and translation services where necessary.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct registration interviews in line with local SOPs and registration standards.
  • Address inquiries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR’s registration procedures and their rights.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and data for all individual registration cases.
  • Identify individuals with specific needs and promptly refer them for protection follow-up.
  • Collaborate with protection staff and partners on the delivery of assistance and programming, including documentation for identity and entitlement.
  • Act as an interpreter or translator as needed.
  • Refer cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners where necessary.
  • Support the identification and management of risks, seeking opportunities to improve objectives within the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Education:
    • G4 – 1 year of relevant experience with a High School Diploma; or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications and Skills:
    • Computer literacy* (essential).
    • Experience with UNHCR’s proGres software (desirable).
  • Language Requirements:
    • For National Professional jobs: Knowledge of English and, if different, the UN working language of the duty station.
  • Competencies:
    • Accountability, client and results orientation, commitment to continuous learning, communication, organizational awareness, planning and organizing, teamwork, and collaboration.
