Job Summary

World Vision Uganda seeks motivated Nutrition Assistants to support nutrition assessment, education, and case management under the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP). The roles involve collaborating with Village Health Teams (VHTs) to deliver community-based nutrition interventions, aiming to improve maternal and child health in Bidi Bidi and Rwamwanja.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Develop work plans with VHTs for community case-finding and outreach nutrition assessments.
  • Lead anthropometric assessments for clients attending TSFP to identify moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) cases.
  • Conduct health and nutrition education with support from Nutrition Officers during clinic days.
  • Distribute nutritious foods to MAM clients and ensure follow-up for clients who miss appointments.
  • Conduct home visits for discharged patients to reinforce nutrition guidance.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Train VHTs on conducting nutrition assessments, reporting, and referral processes.
  • Support the SBCC Officer in rolling out the care group model curriculum.
  • Strengthen community health staff’s capacity in nutrition screening and case detection.

Project Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and activity reports for TSFP and Maternal and Child Health Nutrition (MCHN).
  • Ensure security of food and supplies, preventing damage or losses in storage.
  • Maintain accurate records of distributed food items and provide accountability.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in nutrition fieldwork with a focus on IMAM guidelines.
  • Experience in TSFP and Maternal and Child Health Nutrition Programs is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting nutritional anthropometric assessments and managing nutrition cases.
  • Ability to present complex information appropriately for diverse audiences.
  • Strong report writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
