Duties and Responsibilities
- Process financial transactions and ensure reconciliations are in line with policies and procedures.
- Assist new international staff members with banking arrangements and entitlement processing.
- Coordinate with Finance colleagues across the Area of Responsibility (AoR) and record meeting minutes.
- Liaise with other units on finance-related issues as assigned.
- Assist in preparing VAT refund submissions and monitoring reimbursable amounts if applicable.
- Maintain an organized archiving system for both physical and electronic files.
- Prepare documentation and data for internal and external audits.
- Verify that all financial transactions comply with UNHCR rules and procedures.
- Provide administrative support to the Finance Department and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Recent graduate (within two years) or current student in an undergraduate/graduate program from an accredited university.
- Completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Professional certifications in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting are a plus.
Eligibility
- Applicants must not be immediate family members of UNHCR staff, including those on temporary appointments.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working with refugees, IDPs, finance, or administrative roles is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of financial principles and accounting practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Conditions
- Full-time internship, working Monday to Thursday from 08:00 AM to 05:30 PM, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 02:00 PM.
- Position based in Adjumani, Uganda.
Allowance
Interns without financial support from an external source may receive an allowance to help cover food, transportation, and living expenses.
