The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) was established to support peace and stability in the region. Taking over from the previous mission, MONUC, in 2010, MONUSCO is focused on security, human rights, and development in the DRC.
Position Overview
MONUSCO is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the Engineering Section at the Entebbe Support Base. Reporting to the Field Engineering Officer, the Engineering Technician will handle planning, execution, and supervision of engineering projects, including construction, maintenance, decommissioning, and environmental initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Assessment
- Plan and oversee engineering projects such as construction, refurbishment, maintenance, and asset decommissioning.
- Assess requirements for decommissioning, draft technical reports, and determine work assignments.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to engineering equipment or infrastructure.
Operations
- Supervise the installation, maintenance, repair, and disposal of engineering equipment per safety and installation codes.
- Oversee national and international junior staff and contractors, providing input on performance.
- Ensure adherence to safety programs and standards.
Project Inspection and Compliance
- Inspect and report on construction, maintenance, and disposal projects.
- Supervise waste management, water, sanitation, and environmental initiatives.
- Apply and enforce safety programs for engineering operations.
Administrative Support
- Identify resource needs and assist with budget preparations.
- Support technical evaluation of bids and proposals for projects and equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, prepare bills of quantities, and supervise record maintenance.
Quality Assurance
- Review and approve work orders, supervise task assignments, and verify project completion.
- Monitor contractor performance during warranty periods and coordinate correction of defects.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical/vocational certificate or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, construction, project management, or relevant engineering discipline required.
- PRINCE2 or equivalent project management certification is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering or construction.
- Required experience in contract management and contractor performance evaluation.
- Desirable experience in UN or comparable international organizations, especially in post-conflict environments.
- Experience in preparing scope of works, technical specifications, and project documents is an advantage.
