Job Description:
The Compliance Advisory and Data Privacy Officer will provide support to the Head of Regulatory Affairs and Head of Compliance, offering regulatory advice to ensure Absa Bank Uganda complies with regulatory requirements and the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Advisory (60%):
- Interpret compliance requirements from legislation into business procedures.
- Advise business units on compliance issues, including regulatory changes and new initiatives.
- Assess business impact for new regulatory requirements and communicate them to management.
- Participate in compliance risk forums and keep stakeholders informed on regulatory requirements.
- Maintain Compliance Risk Management Plans and ensure interaction with local regulators.
- Address regulator concerns and keep updated records of regulatory commitments and business licenses.
- Build a compliance culture through awareness and serve as a contact point for compliance-related queries.
Data Privacy (40%):
- Support compliance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019 and promote privacy rights.
- Monitor and report on data privacy practices, investigate complaints, and maintain a data protection register.
- Lead privacy programs and develop processes for handling Subject Access Requests.
- Provide guidance on data privacy policy and coordinate privacy initiatives across business units.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, or Accounting.
- Certificate in Compliance Management is advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance, legal, or bank operations.
- Familiarity with Uganda and regional regulatory requirements.
Skills:
- Comprehensive compliance experience in financial services.
- Knowledge of policy review and regulatory standards.
- Strong skills in delivering results, influencing, decision-making, and supervising.
