Job Title: Customs and Excise Manager
Location: Kampala, Uganda

Job Summary:

The Customs and Excise Manager ensures compliance with customs and excise regulations, managing import and export processes, and minimizing financial risks associated with tariffs, duties, and taxes.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a Customs & Excise strategy.
  • Respond to tax authority queries and stay updated on legislative changes.
  • Review Customs & Excise declarations to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Seek advance rulings on ambiguous tax matters.
  • Conduct process reviews and tax reconciliations for Customs & Excise.
  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Engage with tax authorities on procedural challenges.
  • Design and implement internal tax controls and provide guidance to tax staff.
  • Participate in supplier review meetings and offer technical advice on customs topics.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, International Trade, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in indirect tax, customs, and excise procedures.
  • Expertise in customs classifications, excise duties, trade agreements, and compliance.
  • Background with a Big Four consulting firm or FMCG sector experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to managing regulatory challenges.

Work Hours: 8 hours per day
Experience: Minimum 5 years
