Job Description:
MTN Uganda is seeking an Accountant – General Ledger & Fixed Assets to manage the company’s fixed assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies. The role includes maintaining accurate and compliant financial records on the General Ledger and supporting the Manager – Financial Operations.
Reporting to: Manager – Financial Operations
Division: Finance
Key Responsibilities:
Asset Management:
- Timely and accurate processing of monthly fixed asset transactions, including additions, retirements, and transfers.
- Conduct periodic asset physical counts; analyze, tag, and report asset status.
- Reconcile fixed asset ledger to the general ledger.
- Monitor controls, procedures, and forms for fixed asset records.
- Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and CIP.
- Track projects for asset capitalization.
- Calculate monthly depreciation and conduct periodic impairment reviews for intangible assets.
- Prepare audit schedules for fixed assets and assist auditors with their inquiries.
General Ledger Maintenance:
- Prepare journal entries and support monthly and annual close processes.
- Assist other finance sections with accounting issues and queries.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analyze general ledger accounts.
- Ensure compliance of manual journals with the COA (Chart of Accounts) for accuracy and completeness.
- Support Treasury and Accounts Payable with supplier disbursements.
- Assist in month-end reporting processes and support internal and external auditors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Commerce or any business degree with accounting as a major, or part qualification in ACCA or CPA.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a busy financial operations environment.
- Skills:
- Experience with Oracle ERP.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
