Job Summary:
The Project Officer will work closely with the Project Coordinator to implement the “Targeting the Learning Crisis” (TLC) project, aimed at improving Early Childhood Education (ECE) service delivery. The role involves training teachers, providing mentorship, and supporting district-level ECE activities across various districts in Uganda. The Project Officer will also engage with local communities, parents, and authorities to ensure smooth transitions for children from ECE to primary education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Train and mentor selected ECE teachers in the assigned districts.
- Build the capacity of pre-primary teacher peer mentors and Centre Management Committees (CMC).
- Coordinate parent workshops at schools and engage communities in ECE initiatives.
- Participate in district-level events supporting ECE efforts.
- Monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure proper implementation.
- Organize district review meetings to track progress and collect feedback from local leadership.
- Identify capacity gaps and arrange appropriate training for ECD caregivers.
- Work with other staff members to develop training materials and plans for ECE teachers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development (ECD), Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience working in an ECE program, with community engagement experience being an advantage.
- Ability to engage, train, and work with district authorities, teachers, parents, and children.
- Fluent in English and one of the local refugee languages.
- Strong report writing and computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
- A valid motorcycle riding license (riding ability is an advantage).
