Job Summary:
The Finance Assistant Intern will assist the Finance Department with processing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, providing general administrative support, and helping prepare documentation for internal and external audits. The position requires close interaction with staff, bank officials, and suppliers, and supervision by the Admin or Finance Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process financial transactions and reconciliations in line with UNHCR policies and procedures.
- Assist international staff with opening/closing bank accounts and processing their entitlements.
- Coordinate with Finance colleagues and take meeting minutes.
- Liaise with other units working closely with the Finance Department.
- Assist with VAT refund submissions and monitor reimbursable amounts (if applicable).
- Maintain efficient archiving systems for both physical and electronic files.
- Help prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
- Verify financial transactions to ensure they comply with UNHCR rules and procedures.
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance Department.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Recent graduate (completed studies within 2 years) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate program from an accredited university.
- At least 2 years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field such as Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Professional certifications or licenses in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting are a plus.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience working with refugees/IDPs or in finance/administrative roles.
- Basic understanding of financial principles and accounting practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Conditions:
- Full-time role: 40 hours per week (Monday-Thursday: 08:00 AM – 05:30 PM; Friday: 08:00 AM – 02:00 PM).
- The intern will be based in Adjumani, Uganda.
- Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to help cover food, transportation, and living expenses.
