About MU-JHU Research Collaboration

MU-JHU Research Collaboration is a prominent health research institution based in Kampala, Uganda. The organization conducts health research, provides health services, and offers training programs. MU-JHU’s research focus includes HIV and other prevalent and emerging health conditions affecting women, children, youth, and families. Collaborating with international organizations such as the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), MU-JHU plays a vital role in advancing global health research and delivering essential health services to the local community.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process daily financial requests (payments, receivables, and accountabilities) in accordance with IFRS/IAS and MU-JHU’s policies.
  • Liaise with internal and external users (suppliers, staff) to coordinate missing supporting documentation for financial requests.
  • Prepare cheques and online payments for review by the Financial Accounting Head, ensuring compliance with institutional and donor policies.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts and assist with cash flow management.
  • Prepare and ensure timely settlement of statutory and payroll deductions (PAYE, NSSF, VAT, Withholding Tax, Local Service Tax).
  • Review accountability reports for accuracy before approval from the Financial Accounting Head.
  • Maintain clear and transparent documentation for all financial transactions, ensuring adherence to filing and archiving requirements.
  • Work closely with the project accounting team to monitor project-related expenses and collections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  • Full or part completion of ACCA/CPA certifications is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar role, preferably in a multi-donor institution.
  • Experience with a clinical research institution is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with computerized accounting packages; experience with Navision software is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a demanding environment.
