Job Summary

The Finance & Grants Manager will oversee the financial, administrative, grants, procurement, and operational aspects of the TLC project, ensuring compliance with Bantwana Initiative Uganda (BIU), donor regulations, and Ugandan laws. The role involves supporting the Finance and Programs teams to manage budgets, track spending, and ensure efficient project implementation. The Finance & Grants Manager will lead the management of sub-awards, logistics, and financial reporting, while assisting the Director of Finance & Operations in developing financial plans and monitoring progress.

Key Responsibilities

Finance and Grants Leadership

  • Lead the planning, budgeting, and management of all financial and administrative activities for the BIU TLC project.
  • Supervise and adapt financial systems, policies, and internal controls to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
  • Provide technical guidance on the project’s finance and administration policies.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, oversee budget tracking, and ensure financial reporting systems are accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with USAID, BIU, and Ugandan financial regulations for sub-award agreements.
  • Provide financial stewardship and technical assistance to sub-award partners.
  • Organize annual external audits in consultation with the Director of Finance & Operations.
  • Deputize for the Director of Finance & Operations as required.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely project financial information is available for management and donors.
  • Assist in the development and tracking of Budget Variance systems.
  • Manage the month-end closeout processes, including reviewing transactions in QuickBooks, expense reports, and bank reconciliations.

Staff Capacity Building

  • Guide the project’s finance team to align spending with performance goals.
  • Supervise field office staff to ensure efficient financial systems.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to staff on financial and operational systems.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in financial management.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in a mid-level finance and operations role, with experience working on USAID projects. Proficiency in QuickBooks is essential.
  • Supervisory Skills: Demonstrated supervisory experience, preferably in Education and Protection projects (added advantage).

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify and implement cost-saving and efficiency measures.
  • Knowledge of Uganda’s labor, tax, and other relevant laws.
  • Proficient in financial applications and databases.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations.
