About the Project:
We are seeking an experienced Project Developer Consultant to lead the “Securing Carbon Offsets by Restoring Ecosystems (S.C.O.R.E)” project in Uganda’s Kibale National Park, Albertine Rift Region. The project aims to restore and maintain ecosystem services, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase carbon sequestration, and enhance the well-being of local communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Feasibility Phase (3 months):
- Project Design Sharing: Collaborate with the selected project developer to assess eligibility and partnership potential.
- Financial Analysis and Budgeting: Prepare internal revenue-cost budgets, conduct gap and break-even analyses, and develop a benefit-sharing model.
- Baseline Data Collection: Gather existing data on deforestation, land use, and carbon stocks; conduct preliminary field assessments.
- Regulatory and Legal Review: Assess the legal framework for carbon offset projects and identify potential hurdles.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct a preliminary risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies.
- Carbon Potential Estimation: Estimate carbon sequestration potential and identify key areas for focus.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs.
- MOU Preparation: Draft and coordinate MOUs with key stakeholders.
- Feasibility Study Planning: Outline components and timeline for the feasibility study.
Feasibility Phase (6-9 months, contingent on extension):
- Detailed Stakeholder Consultation: Conduct in-depth consultations to refine project goals and secure agreements.
- Comprehensive Baseline Studies: Conduct detailed studies on carbon stocks, biodiversity, and socio-economic impacts.
- Regulatory Compliance and Permits: Ensure compliance with regulations and obtain necessary permits.
- Project Design Document (PDD) Development: Create a comprehensive PDD meeting certification standards.
- Financial Structuring and Implementation: Finalize the revenue distribution model and implement a financial vehicle for carbon finance.
- Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA): Conduct a full ESIA and develop mitigation strategies.
- Capacity Building and Training: Provide training to local stakeholders on sustainable practices.
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework: Develop a robust M&E framework to track progress and co-benefits.
- Stakeholder Communication Strategy: Create a communication strategy to keep stakeholders informed.
- Implementation Plan Development: Develop a detailed implementation plan for project execution.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 60 months in carbon offset and ecosystem restoration projects.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Skills:
- Strong financial analysis and budgeting skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in project design and documentation.
- Knowledge of environmental co-benefits.
Contract Details:
- Pre-Feasibility Phase: 3 months
- Feasibility Phase: 6-9 months, contingent on project progression
Work Hours: 8 hours/day
