Hariss International Limited is hiring a Maintenance Controller who will report to the Packaging Engineer and will be responsible for overseeing asset care and maintenance operations at the packaging plant.

Reports to: Packaging Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Asset Care:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the asset care plan for the packaging plant.
  • Build asset care competencies within the Packaging Engineering team and address training needs.
  • Support the implementation of the Predictive Maintenance Strategy and Condition Monitoring program.
  • Participate in OEM Supplier Partnering Programme (SPP) meetings where required.
  • Ensure execution of the technical gap plan for the plant.
  • Maintain budgetary control over asset care requirements such as spare parts.

Plant Reliability:

  • Ensure the reliability and uptime of the packaging plant.
  • Oversee the execution of maintenance and extended maintenance work.
  • Lead the Packaging Engineering team in providing asset care and engineering support to shift-based production teams.
  • Conduct and lead performance optimization initiatives to improve packaging performance.
  • Ensure correct implementation of predictive maintenance techniques and spares availability.
  • Validate the quality of routine and planned maintenance work.
  • Review plant reliability, ensure equipment is operating optimally, and identify problems or opportunities for improvement.
  • Solve maintenance problems using the correct problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop and control maintenance cost plans and CAPEX.

Plant Optimization:

  • Evaluate the impact of new plant and equipment, recommending changes where needed.
  • Analyse plant failure modes and investigate causes of repeat failures to correct root causes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives from production or engineering support teams.
  • Build continuous improvement goals into the team’s objectives and review progress regularly.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Set and communicate team goals, ensuring understanding among team members.
  • Build a high-performance culture by regularly reviewing team goals.
  • Conduct training needs analysis and develop training plans for team members.
  • Manage outsourced maintenance services, ensuring adherence to service agreements and high standards of service, product quality, and cost.

Safety and Housekeeping:

  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and legislative policies (e.g., OSH Act) in the execution of tasks.
  • Conduct regular health, safety, and housekeeping checks and audits.
  • Address and correct unsafe work practices identified in the workplace.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in supervising maintenance activities.
