Position Summary:
The Triage Nurse will contribute to the quality of patient care by managing the triage process, providing first aid, and directing patients to appropriate services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Patient Reception: Welcome patients, inform them about facility operations, and ensure a comfortable waiting area.
  • Patient Flow: Manage patient flow to prevent overcrowding and long wait times.
  • Emergency Care: Alert the nurse supervisor or Clinical Officer to serious medical problems.
  • Registration and Documentation: Collaborate with Data Clerks to complete patient registration forms and maintain confidentiality of patient data.
  • Medical Duties: Monitor vital signs, dress wounds, administer injections, and check vaccination status of children under 5.
  • Environment Maintenance: Assist in keeping the triage unit clean.
  • Health Education: Provide health education to patients and attendants as needed.
  • Additional Services: Support in family planning, immunization, and medicine dispensing as required.
  • Ethical Standards: Ensure high levels of integrity and ethics in medical practices according to MTI’s Code of Conduct.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and a valid practicing license.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience in triage or nursing activities. Experience with international NGOs is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Triage practices, first aid, hygiene management, and IPC protocol.
  • Skills: Administering first aid, dressing wounds, monitoring vital signs, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Abilities: Treating patients and staff with respect, providing ethical and compassionate care, maintaining accurate records, managing stress in a busy environment, and adhering to MTI’s Code of Conduct.

Work Hours: 8 hours per day

Experience: 6 months

Education Level: Professional Certificate
