There is nothing more exciting than the thought of graduating, and the graduation season is very much looked up for because it could be regarded as a national event. Now imagine the act – donning that beautiful gown and walking into those tents with family and friends. Attending various parties, and giving speeches of how you survived that cruel world all around the country.
What a moment! I did it too.
Well as school is done and you now have your transcript in hand, thoughts about what next start flocking your mind. You are considered old enough to get out of Mzee’s house, the weekly upcoming is no more, and you are broke with no job, only the series and movies y’all exchanged at your Hostel.
It’s very true that many of us never considered what next after we donned the gown. The system is designed to manipulate us into the thought of instant gowns because we scooped a first class, while the state is encouraging us to go and dig.
Don’t fret!!! You don’t have to be at home all day or on the streets wandering like headless chicken. Today, I am sharing with you a few things you can consider doing if you are stuck at home or on tiktok, and with absolutely no idea what you should be doing after University.
Ask your Professor for a Vacancy under his wing.
It’s quite sad that most of us never kept a thriving relationship with our Professors/tutors during our campus time, but if you did, you just might be in luck. It’s often common practice in many places to retain best performing students to support the education system. Even if there is no vacancy at your Alumni university, I am sure your Professor can pull a few strings, and you shall pull a few dimes.
Volunteer
Volunteering is not only a great way to give back to society but it’s also a way you can get elevated in your career. When you start volunteering, you open yourself up to many opportunities including meeting future employers that you might not have met otherwise. So, instead of sitting back, join volunteer groups, get known and get noticed.
Take on a new course
Graduation is not the end of learning. Learning has now evolved so much that you can take on any course in the comfort of home. There are many online classes available today, and so are masterclasses. Level up by taking on a new course, and uplifting your chances of getting a better job.
Read a book
You would rather read a book than watch Anime and series all day all night or play FIFA. Read a book – reading not only helps you stay on track with your career, but it’s also a sure way to get more knowledge and ideas.
So, if you are out there and wondering what your next step might be, the above ideas are a sure way to get you out of the jam and probably boost your career positively.
