Job Summary:
The Quality Control Supervisors (Coffee) will implement and supervise quality control and quality assurance operations of the company, ensuring compliance with food safety requirements as per the established Quality/Safety standards.
Job Title: Quality Control Supervisors (Coffee) – 05 Positions
Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager/Quality Head
Location: Kampala (May be assigned to other locations when needed)
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the timely sampling and accurate analysis of incoming raw materials, in-process goods, and packaging material to ensure each lot/batch received and processed conforms to company specifications.
- Ensure coffee is properly graded and screened as per the specific standard screens and grades to meet export quality standards.
- Ensure processing lines are in excellent hygienic conditions, verifying that lines are sufficiently cleaned before the commencement of the process, and updating all necessary line clearance records on time.
- Ensure product processing, handling, flow, and segregation are based on organic principles, and the in-storage goods are kept as per Food Safety and Quality standards.
- Supervise the packing of the finished goods, ensuring that all bags are verified as established in the FSQMS procedures.
- Ensure current GMP and GHPs are strictly followed to meet the quality and safety standards of the products.
- Inspect and verify cargo trucks for cleanliness and suitability to safely transport organic food as per established Safety and Quality control standards.
- Supervise rodent and pest control activities to ensure zero infestation in the process and storage areas.
- Work hand in hand with third-party inspectors in product sampling, certification, loading, and dispatch in accordance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out proper documentation and record-keeping by ensuring all necessary records are completed and filed as required, both soft and hard copies.
- Ensure all measurement equipment and instruments in IPQC stations are well-maintained and calibrated to give accurate results at all times.
- Train workers on quality and food safety-related matters while promoting quality policies and objectives to keep them updated, knowledgeable, increase awareness, motivation, and involvement.
- Make regular reports to the Quality Assurance Manager about any nonconformities observed in the operations to ensure the safety and quality of the product.
- Participate in internal and external food safety and quality audits of the site.
- Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by superiors from time to time.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry, Science Technology (Biology, Chemistry) or Biochemistry, Food Science & Technology, Agro-processing & Agri-Business.
- Diploma in any of the above with demonstrated hands-on quality control experience of over 3 years in coffee processing and supply chain can be considered.
- Certificate in Coffee Quality Grading is an added advantage.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Quality Control in Agro-processing, majorly Coffee and Cocoa Processing.
- Excellent knowledge of Coffee, Cocoa Export Standards, Food Safety Standards, Quality Management System Documentation, and Food Safety Audits is required.
