Job Details:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the vacant position of Program Director at UDET’s Head Office in Kampala. UDET is the implementing partner of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) Program in Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Planning: Plan, develop, implement, and direct the organization’s overall business strategy.
  • Financial Management: Ensure prudent financial management aligned with UDET’s operational procedures to provide accurate budgets and reports to donors and the Board of Directors.
  • Policies and Procedures: Create, improve, implement, and enforce organizational policies and procedures to enhance operational and financial effectiveness.
  • Project Development: Support the Project Development Team in conducting due diligence on grant applicants to ensure they meet funding criteria and objectives.
  • Project Implementation: Ensure effective and efficient project implementation and monitor portfolio quality, providing technical assistance to grantees.
  • Reporting: Ensure timely submission of monthly and quarterly reports to donors and the Board.
  • Grantee Audits: Oversee grantee audits to ensure full accountability of financial resources.
  • Training: Coordinate grantee training initiatives.
  • Liaison: Coordinate in-country visits by donor headquarters staff and maintain relationships with other organizations working with grassroots organizations.
  • Communication: Establish effective communication and credibility within the organization and with the Board of Directors.
  • Human Resources: Mentor, appraise, and support staff at all levels to foster growth and development.
  • Corporate Governance: Organize Board meetings and events to ensure effective corporate governance.
  • Organizational Visibility and Networking: Enhance UDET’s visibility and promote networking with other institutions.
  • Fundraising: Lead fundraising efforts to support UDET’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, agriculture, or a related field from a reputable institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an executive or leadership position within a corporate setting, preferably in a development organization, demonstrating strategic leadership and decision-making.
  • Solid experience in fundraising and managing large, complex programs.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and managing business enterprises.
  • Strong English writing skills are highly desirable.
