About Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP):
MUWRP, established in 2002, focuses on HIV vaccine development and research, enhancing vaccine testing capabilities in Uganda. It operates under the Department of Defense (DoD) United States HIV Research Program, based at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR).

Description:
MUWRP is offering internship opportunities in various departments, including Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory, Finance & Accounting, HR & Administration, JMEDICC Laboratory, Supply Chain, Technology Services – IT & Engineering, and The Clinical & Research Laboratory.

Finance and Accounting:

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning and Coordination: Lead the development of financial plans and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Budget Compliance and Oversight: Support ensuring expenditures align with approved budgets.
  • Resource Optimization: Assist in forecasting and resource utilization to ensure necessary financial resources.
  • Bookkeeping and Financial Documentation: Maintain accurate financial records.
  • Internal Control System: Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure efficient resource use.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports for the organization and partners.
  • Payment Process Management: Oversee payment processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to finance-related laws and regulations.

Objective:
To uphold the financial integrity and sustainability of MUWRP and its programs.

Human Resource and Administration:

Objective:
Manage staff entry, stay, and exit while supporting the development of human resource strategies, policies, and procedures.

JMEDICC Programme:

Objective:
Conduct clinical trials for medical countermeasures during filovirus (Ebola/Marburg) outbreaks.

Logistics and Supply Chain:

Key Highlights:

  • Operational Framework: Operates within “Learning to Adopt and Adopting to Learn” ethos.
  • Guiding Standards: Follows procurement/logistics procedures manual ensuring transparency and efficiency.
  • Capacity Development: Manages both local and international procurements.
  • Global Reach: Equipped to navigate global supply chain complexities.

Facilitate the smooth flow of resources, ensuring MUWRP’s research and program activities are well-supported.
