Job Summary: The Production Assistant will play a pivotal role in coordinating, supervising, and implementing all project activities within the production and Nursery bed management sector. This includes adhering to project descriptions and budget provisions as outlined in the agreements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Production Officer to initiate and coordinate planning and implementation of Nursery Bed activities, ensuring optimal use of project resources at minimum cost.
- Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to achieve Nursery Bed objectives and facilitate project implementation.
- Oversee and enhance daily functions of the Nursery Bed, including tasks such as watering, potting, weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring plant health.
- Monitor weather conditions and take appropriate actions to safeguard plant health.
- Develop staff work schedules and assign duties for Nursery bed attendants.
- Manage inventory of plants and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels to meet demand.
- Cultivate plants, trees, and shrubs for use as stock or Mother gardens.
- Create visually appealing plant displays at Nursery sites.
- Collect and compile field data on Nursery bed activities, conducting impact assessments using participatory approaches.
- Assist in preparing periodic work plans and progress reports on Agro-forestry project activities.
- Prepare and submit reports as required by the Production Officer or Project Manager.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Project Officer or designate.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Ecology, Biology, or Integrated Plant Sciences.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in horticulture, forestry, or environmental management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Extensive experience in nursery management and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in greenfield projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, organization, and hands-on skills.
- Ability to handle chemicals and pesticides safely.
- Excellent reporting abilities.
- Mature, pragmatic, and flexible approach with strong commercial judgment.
- Team player with the ability to work autonomously.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Valid riding permit.
- Attention to detail, rigor, and organized approach.
- Result-oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Knowledge of local languages such as Madi/Arabic is an added advantage.
