Job Summary: The IRC is recruiting 2 Research Assistants to support the implementation of Wave 2 RCT activities for the 30M+ euro five-year, multi-stakeholder urban livelihoods programs in Kampala. The Research Assistants will collaborate closely with the Re: Build Research Officer, playing a vital role in supporting the Wave 2 Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) activities. This position is part of the Re: BUiLD Country program team, involving collaboration with the Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) and Research and Innovation (R&I) Units. Reporting directly to the Research Officer, the Research Assistants will contribute to the success of the research team by providing essential support to RCT activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Research Assistants will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following roles:

  • Participate in training on RCT methodologies.
  • Client mobilization, registration, and recruitment.
  • Conduct client information sessions, onboarding, and monitoring.
  • Maintain communication with RCT clients, attending to their inquiries.
  • Data collection.
  • Conduct business verification and spot checks.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational performance standards, code of conduct, and safeguarding policy.
  • Adhere to confidentiality procedures and policies when collecting, storing, and sharing data.
  • Report writing.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of all outputs, feedback, and issues arising from project activities.
  • Interact with Principal Investigators.
  • Provide translation and transcription services as required by the research team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and agreed upon with the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Education, International Development, Anthropology, Sociology, Linguistics, Community Development, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.
  • One year of research experience, specifically implementing research activities in Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs).
  • Experience working with refugee communities in urban settings.
  • Proficiency in managing data collection and knowledge of open-source tools such as ODK Collect, KoBo Toolbox, Survey CTO, or CommCare platforms.
  • Excellent people skills with an approachable personality and patience to connect with clients and address their unique needs.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing work demands and expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multicultural team.
  • Computer skills, especially in Ms. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Language skills: Proficiency in English and any of the following languages (Luganda, Swahili).
