Job Summary:
The Program Officer, reporting directly to the Case Management Coordinator/Child Protection Coordinator, will primarily handle all aspects of the child protection case management process for a designated number of vulnerable children and their families. Based in the allocated settlement, the Program Officer will collaborate with other service providers on managing caseloads and referrals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Management for Individual Children and their Families:
- Provide quality case management services to children at risk of violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other vulnerabilities, following eligibility criteria and case prioritization guidelines.
- Guide children and their families through the case management process, including identification, assessment, planning, implementation, follow-up, review, and closure as per Standard Operation Procedures.
- Offer psychosocial and emotional support to children and families throughout the case management process.
- Ensure safe referrals to essential services as needed, following up to confirm services meet identified needs.
Community and Inter-agency Coordination:
- Collaborate with community members, service providers, NGO partners, and government stakeholders to identify and refer at-risk children safely.
- Maintain an updated service mapping for the designated geographical area.
- Participate in inter-agency case conferences, presenting cases and discussing challenges.
Case Management Teamwork:
- Engage in capacity-building opportunities, including formal trainings, shadowing/observation, and capacity assessments.
- Attend regular case management meetings with the team.
- Prepare for and participate in structured individual supervision sessions, identifying challenges and areas for development.
- Assess and write BID reports for children and recommend further management.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Social Sciences, or a relevant discipline.
- Previous experience in community development or with an NGO, preferably in child protection.
- At least two years of professional experience working with children.
- Excellent writing, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the local language spoken by the affected population.
- Strong commitment to achieving results and delivering quality products on time.
- Experience managing child protection cases in a sensitive and child-friendly manner.
- Excellent communication and engagement skills with children and caregivers.
- Ability to empathize with children and families impacted by humanitarian emergencies.
- Familiarity with case files, databases, and regular documentation.
- Sound understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms.
- Strong community mobilization skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project planning skills.
- Clear and strategic communication with internal and external stakeholders, including effective negotiation and representation skills.
