Position Title: Senior Frontend Developer
Reports To: PI, HISTAC
Liaise With: HISTAC Developers
Organization: Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH)
Background:
MakSPH is a Sub-Awardee to the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) on the HQ Support of Improved Interoperable Health Information Systems (HISTAC) program. The program aims to provide technical assistance in areas of database management, software development, case-based surveillance, HIS design, and implementation in selected countries. We are seeking a Senior Frontend Developer to join our team and contribute to this initiative.
Job Description: The Senior Frontend Developer will ensure alignment of web design and user experience requirements, optimize web pages for efficiency, and maintain consistency across all pages. They will collaborate with backend developers, UX designers, and business analysts to meet project requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design software solutions in collaboration with business analysts and developers
- Determine the structure and design of web pages to ensure optimal user experience
- Develop features to enhance user experience while maintaining functional design
- Lead the development of OHRI Foundation and OpenMRS 3.x UI widgets
- Optimize web pages for speed, extensibility, and scalability
- Develop OHRI program workflows and support HIS systems in public health facilities
- Investigate, analyze, and recommend technology improvements
- Prepare reference materials for end and technical users
- Undertake other tasks as directed by leadership
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software development
- At least 2 years of frontend development using JavaScript frameworks, especially ReactJS
- Advanced experience with relational database engines (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Experience with React and Micro-frontends-based architectures
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Spring, Hibernate, jQuery, Git, Restful web services, Maven
- Strong troubleshooting skills in mixed-environment systems
- Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in software development or health information systems

- Duration: April 1, 2024 – September 29, 2024 (with possibility of extension)
- Location: Kampala, Uganda
