About SAO-U: Share an Opportunity Uganda (SAO-U) is a Christian child-centered organization dedicated to empowering communities to provide for holistic child development. As part of a consortium with funding from the European Union, SAO-U is implementing the SEFULAC project aimed at ending child labor in select districts of Uganda.

Job Summary: The Project Officer will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities focused on improving labor market integration for young people in the Abim District. Reporting to the Programme Area Coordinator, the candidate will work closely with stakeholders to empower youth, enhance child protection structures, and advocate for the elimination of child labor.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct capacity-building sessions with parents/caregivers to improve parenting skills.
  • Empower children to advocate for their rights and eliminate child labor.
  • Establish and strengthen child rights clubs to enhance meaningful child participation.
  • Build capacity of child protection structures, teachers, and community gatekeepers.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to develop and enforce bylaws on child labor.
  • Engage youth in community conversations to improve youth-friendly services.
  • Support out-of-school youth and child labor survivors to access vocational training.
  • Establish a functional community legal mobile court system to address child labor.
  • Strengthen the child protection referral system in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Support parents/caregivers to join Self Help Groups for economic empowerment.
  • Build capacity of parents/caregivers in entrepreneurship and business management.
  • Conduct project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, documenting successes.
  • Coordinate mechanisms for youth livelihoods at the community level.

Programme Planning and Budgeting:

  • Participate in project design and annual work plan development.
  • Contribute to project implementation coordination meetings.
  • Assist in generating project reports, plans, budgets, and learning.

Reporting, Resource Management, and Documentation:

  • Generate requests for funds and procurements needed for planned activities.
  • Document activity implementation and share change stories.
  • Prepare timely reports according to SAO-U standards.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Social Work, Community Development, or related fields.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in project management and community development.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and community structures.
  • Knowledge of child labor interventions and economic empowerment is an advantage.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is a MUST.
