About the Project: Heifer Project International in Uganda is launching a 5-year initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works program. The project aims to enhance the socio-economic well-being and resilience of young people in the Busoga sub-region by 2029. Targeting 250,000 individuals aged 16-35, the project will foster collaborations with partners to achieve its objectives.
Job Summary: The Finance Assistant for the Stimulating Agribusiness for Youth Employment (SAYE) Project will be stationed at the regional office, reporting to the SAYE Project Accountant. The role involves ensuring accurate accounting and reporting of project resources, supporting the finance team, and adhering to financial procedures in accordance with Heifer’s policies.
Essential Character Traits: Detail-oriented, trustworthy, mathematically and analytically inclined, well-organized, enthusiastic, accountable, and values-oriented.
Responsibilities & Deliverables:
- Process payments and monitor project disbursements.
- Code and register project transactions accurately.
- Manage an organized office finance filing system.
- Scan and upload vouchers into Agresso and Laserfiche platforms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent.
- Part II qualification of ACCA, CPA or equivalent is mandatory.
- Three (3) years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a non-profit organization.
Most Critical Proficiencies:
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in English language, both oral and written.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, ERP Accounting packages such as Agresso, Sun Systems, etc.
- Understanding of donor financial policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions and Physical Demands:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimum supervision.
- May require constant sitting and working at a computer.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to produce accurate documents with attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (9kgs) occasionally.
