Job Summary:
Touton Uganda Ltd. is seeking a motivated Sustainability Officer to join its local team in Kampala to lead the coffee sustainability programme.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team under the supervision of the Trading Manager and East Africa Regional Manager and will be responsible for the implementation of a sustainable, traceable, and compliant coffee supply chain.
Roles and responsibilities:
- The Sustainability Officer will be based in Kampala, Uganda working closely with and reporting to the Trading Manager and East Africa Regional Manager as well Group Sustainability function.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a sustainable, traceable, and compliant coffee supply chain following the requirements of sustainability standards and compliance; coordinating field team and related activities; implementing good supply chain management; and coordinating special projects in Uganda.
Other responsibilities include:
- Supporting sourcing/buying and production teams to implement traceability systems as per compliance requirements
- Participating in conceptualizing, planning, and budgeting of project activities
- Supporting fund raising and project proposals
- Coordination with partners, clients and other third-party organisations and partners
- Support implementation of other compliance requirements such as quality systems
- Management of field teams and coordination with sustainability colleagues based in Uganda and overseas
Minimum Qualifications
- Passion for and experience in sustainability and agricultural commodities
- Bachelor’s degree in agribusiness, business administration or general agriculture
- At least 3-year experience in sustainability project management in agricultural supply chains, preferably coffee sector
- Field experience in mobilizing and interacting with smallholder producers, ideally for implementation of sustainability certification and standards (UTZ, RFA, Organic, AAA, 4C, CAFÉ Practices…)
- Experience in creating, managing, and implementing project budgets and workplans and being accountable for spend and delivery
- Ability to work in a high pressure, high performance remote environment; capacity to handle tasks autonomously
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation, data management processes, tools, and software
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office package (Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Excellent report writing skills and ability to report on projects through managerial structure
- Excellent relationship and communication skills with different audiences
- Proficient in Luganda language (preferred but not essential)
